Africa & Middle East

Muscat, Oman
November 2008
The first photo I got wearing my shirt outside of the UK. I was on a business trip to the Middle East and for some reason I had my Rovers shirt in my bag. I was on the private beach at the Grand Hyatt Hotel and I asked my colleague if he'd take a photo of me wearing my shirt.

This was just the start!

Dubai, UAE
December 2009
Another business trip. I was at a telecoms conference at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Here I am (with an ex-girlfriend) outside the Burj al Arab hotel (the iconic sailboat hotel).

I need to go back to Dubai and get a new photo...This time with my wife!

Nairobi, Kenya
April 2010
Another business trip for yet another conference. This photo was taken at the Carnivore Restaurant. Basically a massive all you can eat barbeque.

Servers bring the meat on large skewers and hack bits off with what I can only call, machetes. This one is quite boring (turkey), but some extremely 'interesting' meats were also on offer.

Kigali, Rwanda
April 2010
This was the same trip as Nairobi. We did a 10 day tour of East Africa and went to a few different countries to meet with telecoms operators. Rwandan people are amazingly friendly.

Lake Victoria, Uganda
April 2010
Another stop on our trip. On our way from Kampala back to the airport in Entebbe, we stopped off at Lake Victoria for a photo opportunity.

I did NOT go for a swim (surprisingly)!

Safari, Tanzania
April 2010
The final stop on my 'business' trip to East Africa. While we did a lot of meetings and it was a very good trip, we also had some downtime for tourist stuff.

We got to go on safari. That was very cool!

Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt
July 2012
I rode a camel in the desert, but I didn't see the Nile, Cairo or Luxor (and it still nags at me). I hope to go back someday and see all the historical stuff. (Watch this space for an upgraded photo in front of the pyramids).

Marrakesh, Morocco
December 2017
Our first holiday as a married couple - honeymoon #1. We got married mid-December and we wanted a short trip to celebrate but we also wanted to be home for Christmas. So, we went to Morocco for 5 nights.

Marrakesh is a bonkers place. The Atlas Mountains are absolutely stunning!

Petra, Jordan
March 2019
I was between jobs with some time on my hands. As always, my first thought was...where can I go? So, I took my mum to Jordan.

We trekked in the Wadi Rum desert, stayed in a Bedouin camp and explored Amman. But, by far the best part was Petra. As a kid growing up in the 80s, this was my Indiana Jones moment.
