South & East Europe

St Peter's Square, Vatican City
Jan 2010
Yes, the Vatican City is a country! I took in the Vatican during a trip to Rome. Whatever your views on religion, it's well worth a visit.

Rome, Italy
January 2010
Probably my favourite European city. What I love about Rome is that there are so many iconic landmarks. I could have chosen any one of them for an amazing photo, but for me, the Colosseum is the best.
Maximus, Maximus, Maximus! (Love that movie).

Cluj-Napoca, Romania
March 2010
I've been to a few places in Romania, but I had to use this photo of me in Cluj-Napoca, the capital of Transylvania. I used to go there a lot for work. The company I worked for had an office out there and I sometimes spent months at a time enjoying the sights and sounds of Cluj.

So many awesome experiences and memories made with some amazing people.

Budapest, Hungary
August 2014
I did a business trip to meet with some airports in Eastern Europe and it involved an incredibly beautiful train journey from Vienna, to Bratislava and then on to Budapest.

If you're wondering where the Vienna and Bratislava photos are, they appear later. The photos I got on this trip weren't brilliant. I've since re-visited both cities and I got much better pics.

Mostair, Bosnia Herzegovina
September 2014
I went on holiday with a friend. (That friend is now my wife). We visited 3 countries including Bosnia and we had an amazing time here.

I remember watching the Bosnia war unfold on TV. This bridge was massively significant in that conflict. Seeing it on the news being blown to bits and then being there on a beautiful day in peace time was quite moving.

Kotor, Montenegro
September 2014
I visited Montenegro on the same trip as Bosnia and wow! What a place.
This photo is probably my favourite of all. We were very high up a mountain and the view was stunning.

Dubrovnik, Croatia
September 2014
Croatia completed the 3 country trip to the Balkans (along with Bosnia and Montenegro). We visited 3 cities; Zadar, Split and finally Dubrovnik. I loved every second of this trip!

Croatia is an amazing place to visit and a stroll along the walls of old town Dubrovnik was probably the highlight.

Warsaw, Poland
December 2014
We (me and the girlfriend) went for a very short weekend break for Christmas markets. We were only there for about 30 hours, but in that time we had a regular coffee shop and we took in a whole load of museums and other attractions.

We enjoyed the Christmas markets, but we drank the worst mulled wine ever.

Prague, Czech Republic
October 2015
Another trip with my mum. Prague is full of really interesting sights and things to do. The photo is taken on the Charles Bridge.
The highlight of the trip was a river cruise because mum tried Absinthe. Based on the face she pulled, I don't think she enjoyed it too much.

Rhodes, Greece
June 2017
I don't really like going back to the same place multiple times, but for Lindos in Rhodes, I make an exception. One of my favourite places on earth. (I've now been 6 times).

Marmaris, Turkey
June 2017
As it's easily accessible from Rhodes, we decided to take the ferry for a day trip to Turkey and check out Marmaris.

Nice place, great food and Raki (which I love, but not as much as Ouzo).

Valletta, Malta
September 2019
Not that we knew it at the time, but this was to be the last trip for a while. (Thank you Covid-19). We spent a lot of time scuba diving and eating. Wonderful trip, amazing place.

Bratislava, Slovakia
January 2023
A short break with some friends. I'd been to Bratislava before on a business trip, but I didn't get to explore. I really liked the look of it, so I wanted to go back. This trip involved a lot of eating and drinking because it was so cold outside. We also, randomly, ended up at an ice hockey match at the national football stadium.

Vienna, Austria
January 2023
When we went to Bratislava, it was easier to fly into Vienna and get a taxi. So, that's what we did! It also meant we got to spend some time in Vienna on the way home. Here I am outside the iconic cathedral.
