North & West Europe

Wembley Stadium, London
May 2008
One of my favourite photos, ever! What a day. Promotion to the Championship and beating Leeds in the process.
James Hayter scoring that header from a Bryan Stock corner. The pinnacle of our revival following John Ryan's takeover and our rise from non-league football.

Barcelona, Spain
Feb 2010
This was a business trip, one of my many trips to Barcelona. I was a Mobile World Congress, probably the world's biggest telecoms events.

It takes place in the grounds of Montejuc Palace which is what you can see behind me in the photo.

Mount Snowdon, Wales
March 2012
A bit closer to home. I love climbing mountains and I've been to Snowdonia many times. Snowdon is far from my favourite mountain to climb (Tryfan is way better). But, what a view from the trigg point...

Amsterdam, Netherlands
May 2012
One of my favourite European cities and possibly the on I've visited the most (after Paris). At last count, I've been more than 20 times both on business and as a tourist.

I always enjoy a few days in Amsterdam sampling the sights, sounds and 'local delicacies'.

Paris, France
August 2012
I've been to Paris many times (mainly because my brother has lived there for the best part of 20 years). I really like the city and the Eiffel Tower is my favourite landmark.

Copenhagen, Denmark
May 2013
I split up with my girlfriend and my usual reaction to this type of thing...I'm out of here!

I booked a solo trip to Copenhagen, reserved a bed in a large shared dorm, so I'd make friends, and off I went.

What an amazing trip! Loved the place, drank way too much and slept in a police cell. (I didn't get arrested, there's a much longer story here).

Malmo, Sweden
May 2013
There's a bridge that connects Denmark to Sweden. So while I was in Copenhagen, I took the opportunity to jump on a train and head over to Malmo.

Lovely city, but I was so hungover when I went, I think I only stayed for about 3 hours.

Moscow, Russia
October 2013
This was the start of a series of annual trips I took with my mum. I found really cheap flights to Moscow...and then found out that it'd cost £300 each for visas.

So, we went through the overly complex visa process and it was worth it. Amazing city! Red Square, The Kremlin, St Basil's Cathedral....Everything about it was so impressive. So glad I went because I don't think I'll have another chance to back any time soon!

Edinburgh, Scotland
July 2014
This was a business trip, but I can't think why I went. I had recently started a new job and I was working in aviation, so I was probably there to meet with the airport.

Great city! Well worth a visit.

Dublin, Ireland
August 2014
This was another business trip to see visit the airport. I love Ireland and Dublin is probably my favourite city.

Not the best landmark, but I often have to grab a quick photo somewhere a little underwhelming when I'm travelling on business. Airport to an office for a meeting and back to the airport....that's usually it!

Reykjavik, Iceland
October 2014
Another trip with my mum. After visiting Moscow the previous year, we wanted to go somewhere else a little different, so we went to Iceland.

Reykjavik is a relatively small city, but it's got plenty of interesting things to see and do. Plus, getting out of the city and going to the hot springs (which is where this was taken) and seeing the glaciers and geysers is amazing.

Oslo, Norway
June 2015
A treat for my girlfriend's birthday. Even though it was June, the weather was not great. But, we still had a good time. If I was to move to another country, I'd seriously consider Scandinavia. It seems like a very good place to live.

Berlin, Germany
December 2015
My girlfriend won some travel vouchers in a competition at work, so we decided to take a festive trip to Berlin for the Christmas markets. We did a walking tour and I don't think I've ever been colder.

Zurich, Switzerland
January 2016
A Christmas present for my girlfriend, a trip to Zurich. It was cold (Not a surprise, it was Switzerland in January).

The highlight of the trip was the zoo. They have an amazing elephant enclosure.

Vaduz, Leichtenstein
January 2016
We were in Switzerland, so we did a day trip to Heidi country which also took in Leichtenstein. Probably the dullest country I've ever been to. We were given just 30 minutes to explore Vaduz city centre...15 minutes would probably have been enough.

Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland
April 2016
I did a day trip to Northern Ireland for 2 things I'd always wanted to see; The Titanic Exhibition and Giant's Causeway. Neither dissapointed!

Luxembourg City, Luxembourg
October 2018
Another trip with my mum. I'd always been intrigued by Luxembourg, so we went. Not a huge amount to see there, but it's very easy to get to other countries.
So, we decided to see how many we could do in a day...The answer? We managed 5; Luxembourg, France, Germany, Belgium and the UK.

Lisbon, Portgual
June 2018
A week in Portugal with my wife, mum and father in law. Lisbon is a beautiful city! After this we went to Sintra which was even better.

Bruges, Belgium
October 2018
A short weekend break with my mum for our annual trip. I ate way too much chocolate, but we had a great time in the Old City. The highlight was an amazing restaurant in an old converted theatre.

Riga, Latvia
July 2019
A birthday trip for my wife. I'd always wanted to go to the Baltics, so we headed to Riga. Lovely city, but with a pretty disturbing history. The KGB prison was really quite horrific.

Helsinki, Finland
March 2025
I needed to go to Sweden on business, so I took the opportunity to travel to a couple of other places with my wife. We started in Helisinki and we loved it. Lovely city, amazing people!

My favourite thing about Finland? They have a word that has no direct translation in any other language; 'Kalsarikännit'. It means 'getting drunk at home, on your own, wearing nothing but your underpants'.

Tallinn, Estonia
March 2025
Before we left for Finland, I discovered that it's possible to get a ferry from Helsinki to Tallinn. It only takes a couple of hours, so we decided to take the opportunity and visit yet another country. The ferry was literally the nicest ship I've ever been on.
Tallinn is a small but very interesting city.
